Broadway Bound students win big!

January 20, 2007:  The 25 member competition team from the Broadway Bound Performing Arts Center started the 2007 competition season close to home with a short trip to Derry, NH for the Dancers, Inc. Competition and Convention. The results were outstanding!

For their production number, "Beauty and the Beast", the team garnered a Gold Award, the “That’s Entertainment!” Award, the top score overall and best production number of the day. The entire team performed in the highly acclaimed number complete with "Disneyesque" costumes and music as well as an on-stage set change...all within 6 minutes.

In the Future Star Division, the National Champion Team of Robert DeFelice, Gregory Nguyen and Michael DeFelice won a Gold, High Score Duo/Trio and Top Junior Duo/Trio of the Day with their jazz number, Soul Man.

Shake, was awarded a Gold and was recognized with the High Score in the Rising Star Grouping. Other dances recognized with Gold awards included Girl in the Band, 1,2,3,4 Sumpin’ New, Never Forget and Small World.

In the solo category, Laura Duggan was recognized with a Gold for her jazz rendition of Don't Tell Mama from "Cabaret" and Kelly Coelho missed a Gold by a mere point for her lyrical piece, Iris. In her very first solo competition, Abby Lore walked away with a High Silver for her jazz rendition, Someday My Prince Will Come. A High Silver award went to the production number, We're all in this Together from the popular Disney production, "High School Musical". Another High Silver went to the Hip Hop piece, Lose Control. And, last but far from least, Kelly Coelho, Renee LaFosse and Abby Lore earned scholarships for the National  Convention in July.

The Baton III Competition team won 1st place in the Small Junior Dance Twirl division at the Winterfest National Baton Twirling Association Competition in Upton Mass on January 20th.  Twirling to Neil Diamonds "America", our Broadway Bound Twirlers took first place in their division based on a performance that showcased their teamwork, unison, expression of dance and theme through music, while demonstration excellent showmanship.

Our congratulations to all of our kids for their outstanding effort and significant achievements while performing in their first competitions of the season. If you see any of them please be sure to congratulate them and wish them “good luck” at the next competition, “Professional Dance Teachers Association on February 17th and 18th, in Warwick, RI.
